Chair's Memories

Favorite memory
Sumita (Pennathur) playing her saxophone in the lobby overlooking the mountains! Losing all my golf balls playing golf at Squaw creek with Jörg Kutter and friends, being at my “hood” at 6000 feet in the mountains that I love!

Most challenging aspects
Once we picked the place, PMMI made it happen; all I had to do was show up!

2003 was the first time Preferred Meeting Management Inc. (PMMI) helped organize μTAS.

Katharine Cline (President of PMMI until Dec. 2015) and her team managed many of the μTAS conferences from 2003 onwards.

Program & Attendees

There were 6 plenary talks and 66 contributed oral presentations, which were given as dual track sessions. The program included 261 posters and an industrial exhibition.

Despite set-backs in the global economy which affected academic budgets, the Squaw Valley meeting attracted 650 delegates.

Social Events

Conference Banquet

Took place in the Resort Ballroom. We had an American BBQ and bluegrass music by ‘No Bad Barley’.

Proceedings

Two printed books with 1346 pages. The first conference for which all pdfs are available online (RSC website)

Nearly 500 abstracts had been submitted to the meeting and the committee accepted 68% of these, in order to keep the conference small and focused whilst helping to grow the field as it evolved.
